Studio Will Host National Training in June

We are thrilled to announce that Holly's Pilates Village will host a national training for Pilates teachers who have completed advanced training from The Neuro Studio. The June 21 session in Louisville will be led by The Neuro Studio Co-Founder Meghann Koppele Duffy. Founded in 2014, The Neuro Studio provides pioneering brain-based training for teachers and individuals with neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's disease, and hyper mobility.

During the upcoming Neuro Lab, teachers from around the country will observe Meghann as she demonstrates techniques to build neuroplasticity, and then they will engage in simulations with Meghann as she teaches clients of Holly's Pilates Village. Participating teachers will include Holly Holland, Tiffany Clayton, Sheila Heller, and Chrissy Leake, all of whom have completed or are in the process of completing advanced-level training with The Neuro Studio.

Meghann will have a limited number of private sessions available on Friday June 20, 2025. If you are interested, you can also contact Barry or Holly for more information.

Check Out Our April Class Changes And Additions

Due to the popularity of our new Pilates for Hypermobility class, we have added a second weekly session. Join us on Sundays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Led by Holly Holland and Tiffany Clayton, Pilates for Hypermobility will provide guidance to clients whose excessive flexibility can lead to pain, injury, coordination challenges, and autoimmune disorders. Hyper mobility is a connective tissue disorder that some experts estimate affects up to 20 percent of the population. During the class. Holly and Tiffany will employ techniques from Pilates for Neurological Conditions®, which tap into each client's brain to find the unique sensory strategies that help her/him to become more stable in movement.

Pilates for Hypermobility is designed for clients who are newer to Pilates or who have limited experience with Pilates equipment. The class will move at a deliberate pace and help clients modify exercises to provide greater stability and strength without losing the integrity of their joints. Prerequisites: Prior to joining the class, all participants must complete at least one private assessment with Holly

We've also added a 2nd CoreAlign class on Sundays to keep up with demand. Join Holly Holland and Dawn Adcock for small group sessions on Sundays at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.

Curious about CoreAlign? Check out this article from Balanced Body and discover why the CoreAlign equipment used at our studio is so beneficial for improving gait mechanics, among other benefits.

Long-time client Grace Sternberg discovered that workouts on the CoreAlign have improved her bone strength. Last year she decided to add a weekly CoreAlign class to her regular Bone Strong for Osteoporosis class. Grace recently received results from a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, which showed that her bone density had improved significantly from two years before.

Page Penna's Portraits Showcased This Month

Louisville artist Page Penna spent the early part of her career working in advertising, but her side gig painting portraits eventually moved her into a more satisfying field. At her studio in St. Matthews, Page specializes in oil and pastel painting, but she also loves to draw in graphite. One of her current commissions is a rendering of a photograph taken in 1920 of a soldier in the Irish Republican Army.

“Portraiture is an interpretive art which serves to capture the essence of the human spirit, a moment in time and a genuine likeness,” she says.

The portrait shown above is one of several that will be featured in a Spring Art Show at the St. Matthews Studios & Gallery, 3716 Lexington Road through May 17, 2025. The show will feature the work of eight local artists and is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Page has been coming to Holly's Pilates Village since 2018 and loves to practice both Pilates and yoga at the studio.

Youngsters Need Postural Supports Too!

Is your child a slumper?

Too many sedentary activities such as playing games on the computer, texting on the telephone, or watching television can lead to poor posture, stiffness, pain, and even emotional problems for adolescents and teenagers. Research shows that our kids are not only less physically active than in years past, but they are also prone to more social isolation and depression because of modern technology.

Pilates can help. As Joseph H. Pilates noted in his formative book Return to Life Through Contrology, the exercise system that he created “develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.”

You can help your children incorporate better postural habits in just a few minutes a day. Read this issue of Balanced Body's online newsletter, The Core, for some practical and proactive strategies.

Thank you for being part of our Village! Happy Spring!
